Meet the Maker
Hornsea Pottery originated in the small seaside town of Hornsea, East Yorkshire, around 15 miles north-east of Hull. Founded in 1949, the company became one of Britain’s most innovative and collectible tableware manufacturers, recognised for pushing creative and technical boundaries. Though production ceased in 2000, its distinctive designs remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
Meet the Designer
Sara Vardy was part of Hornsea’s creative team during the 1970s, contributing fresh, graphic designs that defined the brand’s iconic mid-century style. Her Fleur pattern — depicting a field of stylised poppies — captured the optimism of its era and remains one of Hornsea’s most enduring designs.
