Modernist Slivered Bronze Head of Aztec Ruler Pakal

A striking bronze sculpture inspired by the legendary Mayan ruler K’inich Janab Pakal or Pakal The Great. Produced after the discovery of the iconic head found in the Temple of the Inscriptions at Palenque, Mexico in 1952 by Mexican archaeologist Alberto Ruz Lhuillier. The silver-gilt face contrasts beautifully with the verdigris-toned hair, creating a dynamic and aged patina that enhances its presence.

Mounted on a stepped wooden mid-century modern pedestal, this piece is a bold fusion of ancient inspiration and mid-century artistry, crafted by Nicromex in Mexico during the 1970s. The design echoes the grandeur of Mayan civilization while embodying the sleek, expressive style of modernist sculpture.
